Sudha showed me an abandoned unfinished house surrounded by a concrete wall. From up there, you get a great view over Tbilisi. While I was painting the piece, the local boys in the hood showed up. One of them spoke Russian well and told me they hang out there all the time. They've furnished the place with furniture they found nearby, covered the windows with curtains, and basically turned it into their little hookup spot. Turns out the house was being built by the former head of the local prison. Ironically, he ended up behind bars himself, and not long after, he passed away.

Back in St. Petersburg, a spot like this would be covered in layers of pieces within a single season. Here, I had the luxury of carefully choosing the perfect wall.
