The mural featuring zebras in the Vake district was created by the Berlin-based artist Snyder, who often depicts endangered wildlife.

The zebra holds a special meaning in his work: According to Snyder, the zebra is a symbol of freedom and diversity, representing an "untamed, colorful, and tolerant society."

It may not be a coincidence that the mural is located not far from Tbilisi Zoo, where numerous wild animals died during a devastating flood disaster in 2015.

The Berlin Zebra, like its counterpart the Berlin Bear, is wild and free and cannot be tamed. It shows us that freedom breeds diversity and that lived freedom is colourful rather than black and white. We must all accept, protect, support, and particularly cherish freedom. Freedom for all also requires thoughtfulness, tolerance, and consideration from everyone who wants to be free. Therefore, all living beings that embrace our freedom deserve an untouchable place in their freedom.

Laut Snyder ist das Zebra ein Symbol für Freiheit und Vielfalt, für eine "ungezähmte, bunte und tolerante Gesellschaft".
